What Size Propane Tanks Are Needed for Forklifts?

Rely on ProGas for Reliable Fueling of Your Propane Forklift Fleet

propane forklift service pennsylvania Countless industries in Western Pennsylvania, Northern West Virginia, and Southeastern Ohio use forklifts in their day-to-day operations. And with each passing day, more and more of those businesses are discovering the advantages of using propane-powered forklifts.

Why choose propane power? For starters, propane forklifts are superior to electric and gasoline forklifts in that they don’t generate emissions as gasoline forklifts do. This makes them safe to use indoors in places such as warehouses, distribution centers, and large retail stores. They also offer more power and reliability than electric forklifts and can be refueled in less than five minutes. Conversely, electric-powered solutions are commonly idled for up to eight hours for recharging.

What Size Propane Tanks Do I Need for My Forklifts?

Forklifts handle several different jobs, so there are two common sizes of propane cylinders to meet the needs of those tasks.

The standard size of a propane forklift cylinder is an 8-gallon cylinder, which weighs 33 pounds. About 90% of propane forklifts use this size cylinder. On average, these will have enough power to last an eight-hour shift.

The other 10% of propane forklifts use 10-gallon cylinders that weigh 43 pounds. These are used in larger forklift engines for bigger jobs. However, despite being larger, they don’t last quite as long as the 8-gallon cylinders because of the power demand of the larger engines. The 10-gallon cylinders last on average about six hours.
