Popular Types Of Welding Procedures
ProGas can supply all your welding needs!
There are several different methods and procedures in welding done in the greater Pittsburgh area and ProGas is the region’s go-to supplier for all kinds of welding supplies, including gases, equipment and safety gear. We also service your welding equipment, too!
Shielded metal arc welding (SWAM)
This kind of welding, also known as stick welding, is the most common procedure in welding. In shielded metal arc welding, an electrode and an electric current are used to form and shape metal. It is the welding procedure used most often in construction, maintenance and repair.
Gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW/TIG)
If you’re working with metals such as aluminum, stainless steel, copper and nickel a lot, GATW/TIG welding is what you’ll likely be doing. Aerospace, some artists, motor sports and manufacturing businesses which make products containing thin-wall tubing use GATW/TIG welding.
Gas metal arc welding (GMAW/MIG)
Most commonly called MIG (metal inert gas) welding, this welding procedure involves using a continuous wire electrode along with shielding gas. An electric arc is made from the MIG stick and the metals being joined. This welding procedure is used in automotive, construction and mass-production manufacturing.
Flux cored arc welding
This welding procedure is seen as an alternative to shield welding. This semiautomatic arc weld is used often in construction, as it is portable and welds quickly.
